Ingredients

  • 16 oz cream cheese, softened full-fat for best flavor
  • 1 cup canned pumpkin puree not pumpkin pie filling
  • 1 cup powdered sugar for sweetness
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon ground
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg ground
  • 1/4 teaspoon cloves ground
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans or crushed pretzels for coating
  • Optional for decoration candy eyes, pretzels, herbs

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Plastic wrap
  • Serving platter

Method

  1. In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth and creamy, breaking up any lumps.
  2. Add the pumpkin puree and continue mixing until well combined and the mixture is smooth and slightly fluffy.
  3. Sprinkle in the powdered sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt, then mix again until all spices are evenly incorporated.
  4. Once the mixture is uniformly colored and fragrant, transfer it onto a piece of plastic wrap and shape into a tight ball, smoothing the surface as needed.
  5. Wrap the cheeseball tightly with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour to let the flavors meld and the shape set.
  6. Remove the cheeseball from the fridge, then roll it in chopped nuts or crushed pretzels to coat the outside evenly.
  7. Place the coated cheeseball on a serving platter, then decorate with candy eyes, pretzels, or herbs to resemble a spooky character, if desired.
  8. Serve the pumpkin spice cheeseball with crackers or apple slices for a festive treat that's both creamy and crunchy.
